Austria, located in the southern part of central Europe, shares borders with Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. It is a country rich in architecture, scenery, cuisine and cultural heritage. It is also one of the eight countries that the Alps Mountain Range spreads across.
Austria has a consistently high ranking GDP due to its industrialised economy and well-developed social market economy, creating a high standard of living. Since Austria became a member state of the European Union in 1995, it has gained closer ties to other EU economies, with around 67% of Austria’s imports coming from other European Union member states.
Austria has an outstanding public transport system. The trains are efficient, good value, and cover all the major towns and cities.
