The Netherlands, also called Holland, is located in northern Europe. The name Holland has frequently been used informally to refer to the entire country, however, Holland is just a region of the Netherlands. Furthermore, Holland is made up of 2 provinces where the country is most populated. The Netherlands as a whole is a made up of 12 provinces and is bordered by Belgium, Germany and the North Sea.
The country has a highly developed economy. It is one of the world’s 10 leading exporting countries, thus making it the 17th-largest economy in the world. The major sectors behind their economic growth is the financial industry and export of agricultural. The country is also well known for their excellent commercial transportation hub and is Europe’s logistic hot spot, accounting for over 50% of all trade shipping in Western Europe.
Their capital, Amsterdam, is the financial and business metropolis of the Netherlands. The city is home to the world’s oldest stock exchange which is the founding member of the Euro. Amsterdam is their most visited city with millions of visitors each year and ranked within the top 10 cities in the world. Known for it its artistic and historic heritage, canal systems and narrow houses – the smallest house in Europe is located in Amsterdam.
