Belgium is located in Northwestern Europe and is bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France. It is split into three different political regions; Flanders (North), Wallonia (South) and Brussels. The country boasts historic landscape and architectures dating back to Roman times.
Belgium has a population of more than 11.5 million which makes it the 22nd most densely populated country in the world and the 6th most densely populated country in Europe. The capital city is Brussels and is the largest city in the country. Other major cities are Antwerp, Ghent, Charleroi, Liège, Bruges, Namur, and Leuven. Belgium has a very urban population, with 97% of its people living in cities and towns.
Belgium’s globalized economy and its transport infrastructure are integrated with the rest of Europe and is at the centre of a highly industrialized region. It is one of the founding members of the European Union and where its Headquarters are based.
